FRANKTON — Virgil R. Barber, 82, of Frankton, passed away Dec. 1, 2010, at Community Northview, Anderson, following an extended illness.

He was born Oct. 26, 1928, in Anderson, and resided in this area all of his life.

He worked for Craig Trucking Inc. until 1967, and was a business agent for Teamsters Local 135 for four years.

He was a member of Teamsters 135 and Frankton American Legion. He drove stock cars and sprint cars at Sun Valley in Anderson and at other race tracks throughout the Midwest.

Survivors include his sons, Virgil (Rita) Barber, Jr. of Sarasota, Fla., Jack (Cindy) Barber of Knightstown and Charles Barber of Anderson; daughter-in-law, Kathy Barber of Pendleton; twin sister, Virginia Hays of Anderson; sister, Ruth (Ernie) Collison of Washington, Ind.; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Nancy (Gilley) Barber; the mother of his children, Betty (Horner) Barber; daughter, Mary Ann (Gary) Painter; son, Robert Barber; and two sisters, Mary Clements and Marjorie Phillips.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at Robert D. Loose Funeral Home & Crematory, 200 W. 53rd St., Anderson.

Memorial services will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, officiated by the Rev. Michael Srbljan.

Cremation will take place.
