Chico Record, Sunday Morning, December 6, 1914, pg 1 col 1: Pioneer Woman of State Is Dead. Mrs. Edith Amanda Watkins, who had made her home in Chico since 1904, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. E.L. Green, 1037 Sixth street, yesterday afternoon.

Mrs. Watkins was born in Wheeling, W.Va., August 12, 1823, and married George C. Watkins in Danville, Mo., in 1848.

She came to California in 1853, crossing the plains with other early settlers. In 1864 she went to Nevada and returned to California in 1904, making her home in Chico.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. E.L. Green of Chico and Mrs. M.L. Malatesta of Benicia, who were at the bedside when she passed away, and one son, Edward Watkins of Reno, Nev.

There are four grandchildren, Mrs. Ethel Dellaven of Chico, Mrs. George Harvey of Benicia, Mrs. E.E. Simpson of Tonopah, Nev., and George Edward Watkins of Newman, Cal.

The funeral will be held from the Engel funeral chapel tomorrow afternoon at 2:30. Orlando E. Hart, D.D., pastor of the First Presbyterian church, will officiate. Interment will be made in Chico Cemetery.
