He earned the Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart, European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon with 4 Bronze Stars, 2 oversea service bars, and 1 service stripe. He was honorably discharged from Ft. Upon returning from World War II, Ed married the love of his life, Helen Mary Gorka, on September 27, 1944 in Chicago, Illinois. They enjoyed 68 wonderful years together. Ed worked at Bakerite Bakery for 31 years, finishing his career as a plant supervisor. He was instrumental in the Bakers and Confectioners Union, serving as president of the local chapter for a number of years.

Ed was active in the community serving as a member of the Central Wisconsin Apartment Association, the Stevens Point Lions Club, and the American Legion.
