Emily C. Achey, of Wilkes-Barre, fell asleep with Our Lord on Tuesday, December 14, 2010, at the Meadows Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Dallas.

She was born in Plains Township on March 26, 1915, and was a daughter of the late Joseph and Rhoda Faust Moses.

She was educated in Plains Township schools and often enjoyed recounting stories of her happy childhood with her family.

She married John Achey of Wilkes-Barre and raised five children. Over the years, Emily was employed by several factories and lastly by Central Slipper, Wilkes-Barre, until her retirement.

Emily was a devoted member of St. Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church, Wilkes-Barre, the Father Herbert Nahas Senior Citizens Group, and she was a past president of the Ladies Society of St. Mary Antiochian Orthodox Church. She was also a member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

Emily was an avid gardener and enjoyed watching her flowers grow. She was extremely accomplished at cooking, especially many ethnic meals for her family.

She loved spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John A. Achey, in 1975; a son, John, on February 26, 1986; and several brothers and sisters.

Surviving are sons Elias J. and his wife, Julia, Enterprise, Ala., and David P. and his wife, Barbara A., Plains Township; daughters, her devoted caretaker, Lillian Bonomo, with whom she resided, and Janet Holovach and her husband, Michael, Warner Robins, Ga.; sisters Sadie Barkovitz and Loretta Skaff, both of Plains Township; brother James Moses and his wife, Bernadine, Kingston; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Emily's funeral will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday with a Requiem Funeral Liturgy in St. Mary's Antiochian Orthodox Church, Wilkes-Barre.

Interment will be in the parish cemetery, Hanover Township.

Friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday.

Emily's family requests that memorial donations in the name of the Emily Achey Memorial Icon Fund be given to St. Mary Antiochian Church, 905 S. Main St., Wilkes-Barre, PA 18702.

Arrangements are by the Mark V. Yanaitis Funeral Home, Plains Township.
