Daughter of Absalum Mitchum and Martha Jane Mahaffey Arnold. She was born near Covington, TX

She married Joel Jefferson "JJ" Fain on October 23, 1887 in Cleburne, TX. They moved to Wilbarger County in 1890, buying land three miles east of Odell. JJ and Florence retired to Vernon in 1906.

She was in a wheelchair but her mind was still sharp at age 100.

The children of JJ and Florence are Josie Wilson, Hattie Lou Fain Lassiter Martha "Marcie" Annette,
