She was the daughter of Alson Nicholson and Josephine Perry. She married George Warren Avery in Stearns County, Minnesota, on April 26, 1900. They had four children: Lyle Gordon Avery (1901-1984), Gerald William Avery (1904-1996), Lawrence Leonard Avery (1906-1988), and Lillian Avery (1907-1950).

Friends invited. Interment Riverview cemetery.
