LaVerne A. Sommerville, 88, of Valdosta, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2013, at Healthcare of Pensacola Nursing Home, Pensacola, FL, after a lengthy illness.
She was born December 13, 1924, in Pavo, a daughter of the late Leslie Hugh and Cora Lea Shelley Alderman. She graduated from Pavo High School and attended college in Milledgeville. For a number of years Mrs. Sommerville was a Civil Service employee at Moody Air Force Base.
She was a member of Bemiss United Methodist Church, and the three most important things in her life were: church, family and friends.
The Funeral Service for Mrs. Sommerville will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday, July 29, 2013, at the Chapel of Carson McLane Funeral Home, with Rev. James Sapp officiating. Interment will follow at Cat Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to Bemiss United Methodist Church, 4879 Bemiss Road, Valdosta, GA 31605. Condolences may be conveyed to the family at www.mclanecares.com.
