Died - at the home of Mr. and Mrs. F. Gancher(Gaucher), five miles west of Walnut, Saturday, Feb 3, 1900, Mrs. Betty Thallman, aged 85 years and 17 days. She was born in Ohio in 1815. She was a member of the Methodist church. The funeral services were held at Bethel church Monday morning at 10 o'clock, conducted by Rev. W. A. Howard, of Erie, and her remains were buried in the Bethel cemetery by the side of her husband who died eleven years ago.

Died at the home residence in Walnut Grove township, Saturday, February 3, 1900, Mrs. Elizabeth H. Tallman of old age and complication of diseases.
The deceased was born in Ross county, Ohio on January 16, 1816, making her age 84 years, 2 weeks and 4 days. She married in 1836 to John Pennywell, who died in 1838. One daughter blessed this union. She was married again on February 8, 1845, to W. H. Tallman, two daughters blessing this union. In 1855 she emigrated with her husband to Decatur county, Ia.; in 1860 to McDonough county, Ill., and in 1868 to Neosho county, Kansas.
The deceased lived a long and useful (life). Coming to the wild west in an early day she fought against the hardships that the early pioneers had to endure. In 1849 she was converted to the M.E. church at Cedar Grove, the family church. In April 1899, she was stricken down with spinal afflictions and on Friday evening, February 2nd, about 8 o'clock, she was found unconscious and remained so until Saturday night at 11:20 o'clock, when death released her suffering. While she is gone to meet her loved one, who departed this life on December 11, 1889, she leaves three daughters, Mrs. Martha L. Gaucher, at the old home, Kiturah H. Barnard, residence unknown, and Mahala E. Highland, in Ohio; one brother, J. F. Hill, Phoenix, Arizona; six grand children, four great grandchildren and other relatives and friends to mourn her loss.
The funeral services were held at Bethel church Monday, February 5, 1900 at 3 o'clock p.m., conducted by Rev. Howard of Erie, and the remains laid to rest in the Bethel cemetery.

Elizabeth married John Penniwell in 1836 but he died in 1838. They had one daughter named Mahala E. Penniwell-Highland. In 1849 she became a member of the Cedar Grove Methodist Episcopal Church. At the time of her death in 1900 she had a brother, J. Fletcher Hill, living in Phoenix, Arizona. During the Civil War he was in the OVI (Ohio Volunteer Infantry).
In 1855 they moved from Ohio to Decatur Co., Iowa and in 1860 moved back to McDonough Co., Illinois. While in Illinois W.H. Tallman was a member of the Board of Trustees in 1865 for the town of Colchester, Illinois. In 1868, they moved to Walnut Grove Township Near Erie, Neosho Co., Kansas.
