He was fatally wounded by a British sniper at the Four Courts during the Easter Rising.
He was immediately buried at Glasnven and then in 1917 re-interred in his home area.
The beautiful celtic cross over his grave was carved by old IRA Vol. Tommy KELLY of Kilnock, Co. Kerry. It was the only monument he ever carved.
