63, of Belchertown, died on Friday, July 5, 2013 at home. He was a Product Engineer for Hewett Packard in Marboro. Michael was born on September 11, 1949 in Springfield, lived in Chicopee and lived in Belchertown for the past 33 years. He was the son of the late Edward J. and Helen T. (Spakanik) Deren. Michael was a communicant of St. Francis of Assisi Church in Belchertown and an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He received a Bachelors and Masters Degree in Business Administration from Western New England University and prioritized higher education for his family. He was a great fisherman, and spent many days on the Quabbin Reservior fishing for bass and trout. Michael loved driving trips with his wife, Pat, in his Corvette and spending time with his family and his pugs around his backyard paradise. Michael is survived by his wife of thirty-three years, Patricia A. (Rys) Deren, a son, Dr. Matthew E. Deren and his wife, Jennifer of Cumberland, RI; two daughters, Nicole L. Deren and her fiance, Rick Gibbs of Belchertown and Kristen A. Green and her husband Michael of Peabody; a sister Kathleen Karlsen and her husband, Arnold of Granby; two grandchildren Abbigail and Samantha Deren and two nieces, Karina and Kayla Karlsen. Michael's funeral will be held on Thursday, July 11, 2013, from the Cierpial Memorial Funeral Home on 61 Grape St. in Chicopee Center at 8:30 am, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial in the St. Francis of Assisi Church, 24 Jabish St. in Belchertown at 10 am. His burial will follow in South Cemetery, Mill Valley Rd. in Belchertown. Calling hours are on Wednesday from 4 to 8 pm.
