Alexander "Sandy" Baxter, 74, well-known retired professional golfer in Oklahoma City for almost 40 years, died Sunday at his home, 2421 NW 30, after an eight month illness. Baxter was born in Scotland and came to the United States in 1900, settling in LaGrange, Illinois. He came to the Oklahoma Golf & Country Club in 1916 as golf pro from the Dallas TX Country Club. Baxter was also the golf pro at Twin Hills and Edgemere country clubs for a number of years. At the time of his retirement in 1953, he was with the Blakeney driving range. Services will be at 4 pm Tuesday in the Smith & Kernke chapel with burial in Rose Hill Abbey. Survivors are his wife, Nina Baxter, of the home; and a daughter, Mrs Fran Gott, Honolulu, Hawaii.
