WANATAH, IN -- John L. "Jack" Spiess, 81, of Wanatah, passed away Thursday, July 25, 2013. He was born April 7, 1932 in Valparaiso to Mike and Cedy Spiess.
Jack graduated from Morgan Township High School and was a U. S. Army veteran.
He had been an area farmer and electrician his entire career. Jack was a member of Salem United Church of Christ, Wanatah Historical Society and enjoyed entertaining his family and neighbors with his beloved Model "T" Ford.
On December 31, 1953, Jack married Margaret Johnson who preceded him in death in 2002. Survivors include their children: Mike (Mary) Spiess of Union Mills, Kathy (Gordon) Sheely of Valparaiso, and Diane (Steven) Fike of Valparaiso; grandchildren: Jason (Andrea) Spiess, Chris (Marissa) Spiess, Sarah (Chad) Franzman, and Nicholas Fike; and six great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a grandson, Brad Sheely.
Funeral services will be held Monday, July 29, 2013 at 10:00 AM at Salem United Church of Christ, 302 S. Main St., Wanatah with Rev. Carol Nordstrom officiating. Burial to follow at Salem Cemetery. Visitation Sunday from 3:00 - 7:00 PM directly at Salem Church. Memorials may be made to the Salem Cemetery Fund or the Parkinson Foundation.
