James L. "Buddy" Beard II was born December 27, 1928 in Corinth, Mississippi the son of James Leonard and Lillian Esteen (Stacks) Beard, Sr. He has lived in the Hugo community since 1930. Buddy served in the U.S. Army Ameds as a Staff Sergeant from 1951 to 1953. He was a Pharmacist for Sooner Drug and City Drug for fifty years in Hugo. Buddy was a member of the Clayton Ave Baptist Church of Hugo. Buddy is preceded in death by his parents; his wife: Mary Lou (Jennings) Beard; two sisters: Rose Mary McAlister, Shirley Ann Chesney; and a great granddaughter: Saige Naysa Price.
Surviving relatives include two sons: James Beard and wife Tonya of Andrews, TX, Don Duane Beard and wife Sheila of Hugo, OK; two daughters: Kay Spear and husband Richard of Hugo, OK, Janice Hines of Memphis, TN; eleven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; two brothers: Kenneth Beard of Hugo, OK, Don Beard of Texas; four sisters: Linda Weber of Tulsa, OK, Barbara Adams of Paris, TX, Hallene Foster of Hugo, OK, Jean Smith of Texarkana, TX.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6:00-7:00 p.m. in the Prater-Lampton-Mills & Coffey Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society.
