Aged Blairite Had Been Ill Since Operation Early in 1944
Wm. Fick, 78, died at his home on East Washington Street Tuesday afternoon. He had been recuperating from an appendectomy performed in January, and his death was the result of a weakened heart.
Funeral services will be held at Campbell's Mortuary on Friday afternoon, 2:30 p.m., with the Rev. H. C. Jul. Frese officiating.
Burial will be in the Blair Cemetery.
Well-known here for many years, Mr. Fick was born at Schleswig-Holstein, Germany, on June 6, 1865. With a half-brother, he came to the United States at the age of 16 years, settling at Davenport, Iowa. Several years later he moved to Omaha, then to Blair.
He was engaged in the meat business here for a time, and continued to operate a similar business in Ft. Calhoun, several years later. On October 31, 1894, he was married to Mrs. Christina Humphries, a resident of the Ft. Calhoun community. The couple returned to Blair, where they had since made their home.
Two children were born to the Ficks, John W. and Carl Rudolph. Both sons, with the widow, survive. Also surviving are a step-son, E. W. Humphries of Oregon; a step-daughter, Mrs. Sam Cheely of Blair; and one grandchild.
