Mark Lowrey Clark was the only son of Waman and Elizabeth Lowrey Clark.

He served in the Confederate Army as a private in Co. D, 8th Tenn. cavalry; commanding officer Col. Anthoney Dibrell. He was captured twice: the first time at Hartsville, Tn and the second time at Big Shanty, Ga. He was listed as a prisoner of war. After the war he was an attorney.

He married Mary Catherine Gardenhire, daughter of Erasmus Lee and Mary McMillin Gardenhire, on 20 Aug 1868. They had two sons:
- Erasmus Lee Clark
- an infant son that died at birth, possibly named Mark Lowry
They had four daughters:
- Ellan "Ella" Gardenhire
- Annie Benton
- Elizabeth "Bessie"
- Rassalee

- 1850 for White Co., Tn - with his parents
- 1860 for White Co., Tn - with his parents
- 1870 for White Co., Tn - with his wife and son
- 1880 for White Co., Tn - with his wife and son and four daughters
- 1900 for Nashville, Davison Co., Tn - with wife and two daughters

His granddaughter, Sammie Clark Sims, wrote in her memoirs, "The Mark and Mary Gardenhire Clarks lived in a large, old brick home one mile out of Sparta. Nearby was a brick mill, Clark's mill. These places were torn down in the 1960's to make way for the Appalachian Highway. Elizabeth Lowery (Lowrey) Clark was my grandfather's mother. I remember seeing her, but was my I never saw my Clark grandfather. He committed suicide when I was small. He had been brought up, an only child (son), been denied nothing, and could not cope when financial reverses came his way." Family stories say he went out hunting and his dog came home, but he didn't.
