He was born in Mt. Clemens, Mich., on December 31, 1953, a son of the late William and Ella (McDaniel) Abel, Sr.
Willis was employed for 32 years at Chrysler in the Sterling Heights Assembly Plant, retiring on March 31, 2005.
On October 15, 1983, he was married to the former Constance "Connie" Cooper in Roseville, Mich. The couple resided in the metro Detroit area and following Willis' retirement, moved to South Range where they have made their home for the past four years.
Willis was a life member of the UAW.
Surviving are his wife, Connie, of South Range; four sons and one daughter, William J. Abel of the metro Detroit area, Michael (Kelly) Abel of Shelby Twp., Deanna (John) Galovski of Capac, Mich., Brandon (Elizabeth) Abel of St. Clair Shores, Mich., and Travis Abel of South Range; two and a half grandchildren, Michael, Zachary and "Peanut"; one brother, Gerald Abel of the metro Detroit area; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, Willis was also preceded in death by a sister, Laura; and daughter-in-law, Jami.
Funeral services held December 1, 2010, at the Mountain View Mortuary in South Range with Pastor Nicholas Hopman to officiate. Cremation will follow the service..
Arrangements are being handled by Antila Funeral Service, Inc., Mountain View Mortuary of South Range, 14 Seventh St., South Range, MI 49963.
