Mrs. Parrish was born in Winganon, Oklahoma, the daughter of Hine and Anna M. Shaw Patton on May 3, 1925. She had previously worked as a secretary at the Abilene State School. She loved her personal library focusing on holistic medicine. Iona also loved her pets and gardening and her favorite apple and pecan trees. She won first prize at the West Texas Fair for her pencil tree. She was a Baptist.
Mrs. Parrish was preceded in death by her parents; her sister, Goldie; her brother, Lenzy; and grandson, Jasen.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law, David and Mary Parrish of Abilene; two daughters and their husbands, Linda and Danny McQueen of Nalley, Alabama, and Vanessa and Pat Johnson of Tucson, Arizona; sister, Rosanna Dorough of Chickasha, Oklahoma; 7 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
Iona's favorite scripture was Psalm 46:10 - "Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth."
