Married Graham Sebastian Brusie (1927-1992)

Rebecca B. “Becky” (James) Brusie, 82, of Swanzey died peacefully Jan. 3, 2012, at Cheshire Medical Center/Dartmouth-Hitchcock Keene after a brief period of failing health.
She was born in Lisbon March 4, 1929, daughter of Laura (Bort) and Raymond James. She was educated in Berlin and graduated from Berlin High School in 1948. She later continued with her education and received her diploma in education in 1952 from Keene Teachers College.
On July 8, 1950, she married Graham S. Brusie in a small service with close friends and family present. They had been happily married for 42 years before his passing in 1992.
Mrs. Brusie worked for a short time as a substitute teacher at Mount Caesar School in Swanzey.
She was a woman of faith. She was a member and attended the West Swanzey Community Church.
In her free time, she enjoyed nature and cooking. Family genealogy took up a lot of her time. It was important for her to know her ancestry and to pass this on to the family. She had a sense of community. She was a supervisor of the voter checklist in Swanzey for many years. She also helped with the costumes for “The Old Homestead” play.
Survivors include her three children and their spouses, Donna R. Brusie and her companion, Guy DuBois, of Acworth, Linda L. Thompson and her husband, John, and Sharon E. Duquette and her husband, Michael, all of Swanzey; a sister, Barbara Smith of Missouri; her three grandchildren, Hayley Dye and her husband, Harrison, Graham Thompson and his wife, Stacey, and Bryant Thompson, all of Utah; her combined family grandchildren, Erin Duquette, Molly Duquette and Samuel Duquette; two great-grandchildren, Emily Dye and Hayden Dye; her special friend, Stacey Cole of Swanzey; and nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. Her parents, Laura and Raymond James, her husband, Graham S. Brusie, and her siblings, Muriel Harris and Lucille Walton, all died earlier.
A celebration of life service will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at Cheshire Family Funeral Home, 46 South Winchester St., West Swanzey. Burial will follow in the family lot at Oak Hill Cemetery, Railroad Street, Swanzey.
Calling hours will be held Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home (www.cheshirefamilyfh.com).
Flowers will gladly be accepted; however, the family would prefer contributions be made in Mrs. Brusie’s memory to Gert’s Pantry, P.O. Box 5, West Swanzey 03469.
