"Beloved wife of John Dos Passos."

A contributor has informed that Katharine and John Dos Passos were married in 1929. She was killed in a car accident that also left husband John blind in one eye. John later married Elizabeth who is buried beside him.

The birth and death dates above reflect the years engraved on the grave marker. Contributor Andrew T (49298479) suggests, however, that Katharine Foster Smith Dos Passos was born in 1891, not 1894. Her grave stone says 1894, but she changed her age on her marriage license so that the age difference between her and John Dos Passos was not as obvious. She was a school classmate of Hadley Richardson Hemingway (#16268914), who was also born in 1891. The Dictionary of Real People and Places in Fiction by Rintoul confirms the 1891 date. Another reliable source that verifies the 1891 birth year: https://www.nytimes.com/1984/09/23/books/his-torments-shaped-his-politics.html This is an NYT review of Dos Passos: A Life by Virginia Spencer Carr.
