The inscription on the headstone is incorrect. He not only served as a Captain in, but organized Company "K" of the 16th(not 18th) PA Volunteer Cavalry.

Capt. Robert W. Parkinson died at his home in Old Condord as a result of breaking his hip in a fall on 12/19/1919. He lived at the same location his entire life from birth to death.

He was the youngest son of Robert and Phebe VanKirk Parkinson.

On May 7, 1861 he married Caroline Day the daughter of Elias Day. She passed in 1902.

He dealt in farming and wool until he turned over his business to his sons about 10 years prior to his death.

In 1882 Robert was nominated & elected to the state legislature. He did not seek re-election.

He also served for 45 years as clerk of the session of Concord Presbyterian Church. He also served as trustee of Waynesburg College. He also served on the board of trust.

He was survived by five children.
