Lois Ann Cary

Funeral services for Lois Ann Cary, 94, of Hobart were held Tuesday, January 6, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Hobart with Rev. Doran Myers officiating.
Lois was born April 20, 1909 in St. Jo, Texas to Q.O. and Margaret Ann (Rowe) Mitchell and died Saturday, January 3, 2004 in Norman.
She and her family moved to Carnegie in 1913 and she attended Carnegie schools until her senior year. She graduated from Anadarko High School in 1928. During high school she worked at the Dixie Department Store in Carnegie. In 1936, she moved to Hobart and she attended Hobart5 Junior Collage. She worked at the Hobart Dixie Department Store for 25 years. She then worked for the Mainfair Clothing Store for 20 years, retiring in 1986.
She married Elton Cary on November 4, 1939. He preceded her in death on May 10, 2003. They had two children, Dan and Marianne. They lived in Hobart for 59 years, with brief stays in Burns Flat and Altus during WWII.
She and her husband, Elton, enjoyed traveling after retirement. They mainly traveled with family or on bus tours until their health started failing. She was a local tour representative with Kincaide Charter Tours for over 20 years.
Lois was very close to her children and grandchildren. She and Elton moved to Oklahoma City in 1998 to be closer to her family. When their health issues worsened in February 2002, she and Elton went to live with her son and daughter-in-law, Dan and Bernetta in Norman. They became her primary caregivers for the remainder of her life.
She was a faithful member of the First Christian Church of Hobart for many years. She was a member of the missionary groups and Christian women's fellowship, serving as an officer at times. She taught Sunday school for 22 years, worked with the youth groups in their endeavors and activities.
She is survived by her son, Dan Cary and wife, Bernetta of Norman; three granddaughters, Kim Dowhower and husband, Matt of Shawnee, Lori Morris and husbands, Mac of Plano, Texas and Danna Cary of Plano, Texas; five great grandchildren, Brittney and Blake Stone of Plano, Texas and Bryce, Cassidy and Anna Dowhower of Shawnee.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; three sisters, Fay McBride, Clela Dowty, and Wanda Jo Welch; two brothers, Orville and W.R. Mitchell and her daughter Marianne Flagler.
Burial was in the Hobart Rose Cemetery under the direction of the Hackney-Gish Funeral Home in Hobart.
