Ringsted Man Dies at 70

Richard Freeman Metz, 70, of Ringsted, died of a heart attack yesterday at 1:40 p.m. at his home. He had been ill for several years and suffered a stroke three weeks ago.

Mr. Metz was born Sept. 24, 1889 at Shartlesville, Pa. He was married to Johanna Alizabeth Beck Oct. 22, 1910, at Armstrong. Mr. Metz came to Iowa in 1907, and farmed near Armstrong and Jack Creek.

He had farmed the past 29 years southeast of Ringsted, and moved to Ringsted last year in October.

He is survived by his wife, five children and 16 grandchildren. His children are Mrs. Floyd (Mary) Long of Estherville, Mrs. Ralph (Agnes) Wilson of Ringsted, Mrs. Francis (Edna) Foth of Bancroft, James of Reading, Pa., and Robert of Van Nuys, Calif.

Also surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Ida Berger and Mrs. Herbert (Katie) Kauffman, both of Shartlesville, Pa., and two brothers, Charles and Frank of West Hamburg, Pa.

Funeral services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at the Presbyterian Church at Armstrong, the Rev. James Warren officiating. Friends may call at the Slabe Funeral Home at Armstrong from noon Saturday until time of services. Burial will be in Armstrong Grove Cemetery.
