Richard Gist (son of Christopher Richard Gist and Edith Cromwell) was born 1683 in MD and died 21 Aug 1741 in Baltimore Co, MD. He married Zipporah Murray on 7 Dec 1704 in Friends Meeting House, Baltimore,MD, daughter of James Murray and Jemina Morgan. Sometimes called Richard Christopher Gist.

Richard was abt. 7 yrs. old when his father died and abt. 11 yrs. old when his mother died. He married 12/7/1704, at the Quaker Meeting House, Baltimore Co., MD. He resided at Gist's Rest and later moved to Brother's Good Will. He was captain of the militia, planter, and County Justice and Commissioner.

He was the surveyor of the Town of Baltimore.

Richard surveyed the western shore of Maryland, and helped lay out the town of Baltimore in 1736. He was a Justice and Commissioner of Baltimore County from 1727 until his death. He appears in numerous court records of Baltimore Co. Richard was the child of members of the Church of England, but his marriage is recorded in the Quaker Friend's Records.

Richard Gist's marriage consent from 1704 states "The young man produced a certificate (of consent) from Thomas Cromwell, his uncle and guardian, signifying his and his wife's consent and the young woman's mother." His mother's maiden names was Cromwell. Some of the witnesses to the wedding were as follows: Je. Murray, Rich. Cromwell, Keia Murray, Eliza Cromwell, Will. Cromwell, Tho. Cromwell, Mary Cromwell, John Ashman and others.

The Maryland Historical Society produced a magazine with the genealogy of the Gist Family.
