Gerald Leroy Boender, age 82 of Eddyville, died Saturday, July 20, 2013, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines surrounded by his family.

Garald was born August 30, 1930, to Dick and Louise Boender. He married Leola Jeanette Cooper March 7, 1953. The were blessed with four children, Larry, Patricia, Garry, and Timothy.

Gerald grew up and attended country school in Albia, and later graduated from Albia High School. He was a farmer his entire life and worked at Montgomery Ward's and Sears in Oskaloosa installing their air conditioners and furnaces. He enjoyed wood working, beign outdoors gardening, fishing, hunting, trapping and bee keeping. He especially loved spending time with his family and friends, and took pride in working with his boys on the family farm.

Gerald is survived by his wife, Leola of Eddyville; four children, Larry Boender of Albia, Patricia(Jim)Potter of Ottumwa, Garry(Janette)Boender of Ottumwa, and Timothy(Rebecca)Boender of El Dorado, KS: seven grandchildren, Robert Parks, Laura Ellis, Jeannie Main, Dustin Hicks, Heidi Williams, Alexander Boender and Mackenzie Boender; and ten great grandchildren.

Gerald was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be 10:30 am Wednesday, July 24, 2013, at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with Pastor Brian Harris officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Corners Cemetery near Eddyville. Visitation will be 11 am, Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at Tharp Funeral Home in Albia, with the family present from 6-8 pm. Memorials may be made to Gerald's family.
