Mrs. Ed Swift, 86, a resident of Estherville for 23 years, died yesterday at 5 a.m. at her home after a short illness. Mrs. Swift had been in good health until Sunday when she was first taken seriously ill. She is the mother of W. A. Swift of Estherville.

Requiem high mass will be said at 9 a.m. tomorrow at St. Patrick’s Parish Catholic Church and rosary will be recited tonight at 9 o’clock at the Mahlum and Anderson funeral chapel.

Surviving Mrs. Swift are five sons, W. A. Swift of Estherville, John Swift and Joe Swift of Graettinger, Ed Swift and Frank Swift of Consort, Albert, Canada, and two daughters, Mrs. Joe Wigtom of Tracey, Minn.; and Mrs. J. A. Olson of Rush City, Minn. She also is survived by 22 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and one sister-in-law, Mrs. Pete Swift, of near Graettinger.

Her husband preceded her in death in Mary, 1930, and one daughter, Mrs. D. E. Hunter of Motley, Minn., also preceded her in death.

Mrs. Swift was born in May 1854, and she and Mr. Swift were married in October, 1874. They celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary in 1924. They moved to Estherville 23 years ago from a farm near Emmetsburg where they have lived or many years. (Estherville Daily News, Estherville, IA, January 29, 1941)
