Matthew was born in Portsmouth, VA, to parents Joseph Nilson and Kelley Stagner on December 30, 1984. Matthew loved life and always lived it to the fullest whether he was out riding his quads with friends or floating down the river. He loved to make people laugh and enjoyed playing video games, where you could find him in front of the TV for hours. He also enjoyed going to the gym and getting a good workout in. He never met a stranger that didn't like him and was always fun to be around. Matthew worked in the oilfields industry since 2002 and enjoyed his job, and received many certificates.

Matthew was preceded in death by his father, who he missed all his life, and they are now finally together again, Joseph Nilson; and his grandfathers, Vernon Eugene Stagner and Fred Hewitt.

He is survived by his mother, Kelley Sue Luttrell; brother, Billy and wife, Megan Stewart III; sister, Shelby Stewart; fiancée, Amanda Marie Sobiniak; grandmother, Jewel and Bob Salyer; grandparents, Lynn and Noreen Nilson; niece, Lilly Sue Stewart; uncle, Fred and Sara Nilson; aunt, Dana and Ron Tjaarda; aunt, Anita and Tony Gonzales; and many, many cousins and loved ones. The family would like to thank everyone for all your thoughts and prayers.
