Alice Harrigill Puhr, 90, passed away peacefully in her home on July 21. She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Kathryn Harrigill, brother, Albert Harrigill, sisters; Eveyn Thompson and Gladys Burk, and husband John Puhr.
She is survived by her sister, Mary Grace Gibson (Curtis), six children, John Puhr, Jr. (Judith), Ron Puhr (Donna), Dan Puhr (Nancy), Kathy Childress (Jim), Roger Puhr (Frances), and Debie Lopez (Tony). She is also survived by eighteen wonderful grandchildren and twelve beautiful great-grandchildren.
Alice Lucille Harrigill was born in Hamburg, MS to Samuel M. and Kathryn French Harrigill. Alice attended school in Washington, MS. She married John Joseph Puhr on November 24, 1945. The family moved to Natchez in 1948. They were members of Assumption Church and their children attended Cathedral school in Natchez. In 1959, the Puhr family moved to Mobile, AL.
The family moved to Moss Point in January of 1968. They became deeply involved at St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She was especially fond of singing and was one of the original members of the church choir. She remained very involved in her church well into her 80's.
She opened her home and heart to so many people who were blessed to find their way into her life. She reached out in service to others and never expected anything in return. She was concerned about the problems of others and did whatever she could to help. Alice was loved by all who knew her and will be deeply missed. Each of us has been made a better person because of our time with her. We owe her a great debt that can only be repaid through service to God and others.
Visitation for Alice Puhr will be at 10:00 AM on Thursday, July 25, at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Mass will follow at 11:00 AM with internment at Serene Memorial Gardens in Moss Point.
