Charles Cunningham was one of the children born to William Cunningham and his wife Margaret E. Robinson. Charles was a life-long resident of Illinois, who was employed as a bookkeeper/merchant.

Charles was united in marriage in 1874 to Annie M. Gwathmey, the daughter of Fortunatus Cosby (FC) Gwathmey and his wife Belle Lyons. Charles and Annie were blessed with two children during their marriage of 44 years:

Charles was left a widower in 1918 when Annie passed away. Charles was laid to rest 13 years after his wife. They are both interred together in Thistlewood (Beechwood) Cemetery in Mounds, Illinois.
