Ada Gertrude Copeland Anderson, 92, of Oneida, passed away July 23, 2013. Born in Oakdale, January 4, 1921, she was preceded in death by her parents, Willie Lee and Sarah Jane McCloud Copeland; husband, Robert Anderson; sons, Claude and Clyde Newby; daughter, Glenna Faye Newby; brothers: Granville Copeland and wife, Dessie, Staley Copeland and wife, Marie, Melvin Copeland, Robert Copeland, Dewey Copeland and wife, Eula Mae, James Copeland and wife, Zonia, and Roy Copeland; and son-in-law, Willard "Bill" Smith. She and her husband lived in the Lake City area for many years before moving to Oneida to be near her daughter. It was in Oneida where she lived for the past 20 years. She was a member of Paint Rock Baptist Church, and Scott County Senior Citizens Center where she spent much of her time with her friends working puzzles, playing games, quilting and enjoying their fellowship. She was a people person, making friends each place she went and was always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need and was loved by all who came in contact with her. She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Kaye Smith of Oneida; son, Charles Wayne Phillips of Lake City; grandchildren: Curtis Smith of Oneida, and Ginger Phillips and Charlie Phillips, both of Lake City; great-grandchildren: Esa Rose and Chelsea; several nieces and nephews, and many other relatives. Funeral service was conducted July 25, in the chapel of Four Oaks Funeral Home of Oneida with Rev. Joseph Copeland and Rev. Jerry Copeland officiating. Graveside service was conducted July 26, at Peabody Cemetery, Campbell County. Four Oaks Funeral Home of Oneida had charge of arrangements. (Source: The Independent Herald, 1 Aug 2013, pB2)
