Born in Sumter, he was a son of the late Jesse Broadway and the late Ruth Hynes Broadway. Mr. Broadway was a member of Lemira Presbyterian Church. He was a U.S. Navy veteran, having served on the USS Agerholm during the Korean War. He was also a retired master sergeant from the U.S. Air National Guard and a retired captain from the Sumter Police Department after 32 years of service.
Survivors besides his wife include two sons, James Broadway and Al Broadway and his wife, Krystal, all of Sumter; a daughter, Cathy Briggs of Sumter; three grandchildren, Emily Briggs, Ashleigh Broadway, and Patrick Broadway; and a great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Harold Broadway, and a sister, Francis Laverdiere.
Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday in the Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home chapel with the Rev. G.W. Harrell and the Rev. Eugene Mosier officiating.
Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery with police honors.
Pallbearers will be Sammy Harrell, Glenn Harrell, Doug Chappell, J.J. Pendarvis, Teddy Laverdiere, and Bobby McDuffie.
Honorary pallbearers will be members of the Sumter Police Department.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Elmore-Cannon-Stephens Funeral Home and other times at the home.
