PHYLLIS MARJORIE HAPPEL, 85, of Hagerstown, Md., passed away Thursday, Sept. 20, 2007, at Washington County Hospital, Hagerstown. Born Wednesday, Jan. 4, 1922, in Foxville, Md., she was the daughter of the late Melvin C. Buhrman and Lillie Marie Buhrman Seals. She was preceded in death by her husband, Leland Harding Happel, in 2004.

She was a longtime member of the Presbyterian Church of Hagerstown. Phyllis lived in Paris for several years and traveled widely with her late husband. She loved being with her family and cooking meals for family reunions. She also was an avid Scrabble player and sports fan.

She is survived by two daughters, Olivia Lee Michener of Alexandria, Va., and Karen Adele Kochersperger of Hackettstown, N.J.; and three grandchildren.

She also was preceded in death by one sister, Helene Sanbower; and one brother, Junior Burhman.

Services were held at the Presbyterian Church of Hagerstown, Hagerstown with the Rev. Kyle Powderly officiating; private interment was at Rest Haven Cemetery, Hagerstown.
