J. Frank born on July 22, 1870, was one of five children of William James and Mary Catherine (Caldwell) Fife. He was baptized on Sep. 12, 1870 at the family church, Bethel Presbyterian Church, in Bethel Park, Allegheny County, PA.

On May 3, 1894, he was married to Caroline Eliza "Carrie" Patterson. They had five children: John Francis II (Ruth Brown), Jeanne Marie (Donald Hast), William James "Jay" (Mary Agnes Simmons), Katherine Isabelle (John Helmlinger) and Edna Caroline (Howard Walk).

He spent his entire life farming on the land near where his forefather's had farmed since the mid-1760's. He lived his life in the St. Clair Township, Allegheny County, PA area.

He died on Dec. 13, 1943 and was buried at Bethel Presbyterian Cemetery with many of his ancestors. In 1960, Carrie would be buried right beside him.
