Tincie (Tiny) Thomas passed away peacefully on July 25, 2012. She was born to James and Nora Varnado in September of 1914. She was the second youngest child of her parents' twelve children. She was petite and quickly adopted the nickname Tiny, which followed her through life. Raised in Franklinton, Louisiana, she enjoyed sharing her memories of as a child growing up on a farm. She spoke fondly of the horses and other animals she cared for, and perhaps not so fondly of having to help pick cotton during the hot, humid Louisiana summers.

In 1938 she married her first husband and childhood sweetheart, Olin Bullock. When Mr. Bullock entered the service during the Second World War, she also enlisted as a WAC into the Army's Women's Air Corps. There she tested and repaired aircraft radios on the Army Air Corps' trainer planes. This experience brought her to Kern County's Garner Field, an Army training base outside of Taft, California.

After the war, her marriage to Mr. Bullock ended. She later met Raymond Thomas of Taft. He became her husband of 58 years, until his passing in 1996. Together they spent the rest of their lives in Taft. Raymond Thomas became assistant postmaster for the Postal Service in Taft. They had one son, Michael Thomas. He now lives in Bakersfield with his wife, Gail, and son, Nicholas. Mrs. Thomas also had another grandchild, Bryan Thomas. Bryan now lives in Cordova, TN, with his wife, Tania, and Mrs. Thomas's three great-grandchildren, Jade, Hailey, and Harrison. She also has a stepdaughter, Donna Rose; and great-granddaughter, Tina, who lives in Colorado. Her grandchildren became the pride and joy of Mrs. Thomas's life.

I would like to thank the staff at Pacifica Assisted Living and Memory Care. You have been our extended family for over seven years, and your assistance has been so much appreciated.
Mrs. Thomas was a spiritual person who has taken her place with Christ. Rest well, Mother. We will always love you.
