George was shot by Andrew Jackson McKinney, his wife's brother. "Jack" had a disagreement with his brother-in-law George Harper, over who would tend a field of
corn. Jack came riding down the road on his horse and saw George standing on a rock beside the road. What words were spoken is not known. Jack took out his pistol and shot him while sitting on his horse. George was taken to a house up on the side of the hill and died several hours later.
