GEORGIA LEE ABERCROMBIE
December 18, 1925 - July 11, 2013

Georgia was born in Duncan, Oklahoma, December 18, 1925 to George Clinton Vaughn and Mary Elizabeth (Bradford) Vaughn. She died on the 11th of July, 2013. She was the second born with an older sister, Virginia Faye (Vaughn) Owen (deceased) and her brother George Clinton Vaughn Jr. (deceased).

Georgia attended Oklahoma College for Women in Chickasha, Oklahoma. After graduation she married Russell Tillman Abercrombie Jr. (Ted) on July 16, 1950. They were married for 54 wonderful years. Ted (Parky) preceded Georgia in death on July 9, 2003.

Georgia enjoyed family, traveling, and life in general. As a young women she enjoyed equestrian riding, teaching swimming lessons, and participating in synchronized swimming at her hometown of Duncan, Ok. She taught 30 years in the family and consumer science field (home economics) in Oklahoma and southwest Missouri. She was active in her children's school activities; girls and boy scouts. She also was an active member of the Business Professional Women for many years. She obtained her master's in education at Central Missouri State University in 1972. After retirement she volunteered, giving back to the community. For 15 years she and her husband, Ted, served at the Nixa Senior Center and VFW serving food and helping with whatever was needed. Georgia, also, volunteered over 20,000 hours at Mercy Hospital doing research for the doctors in the library, working in the infant nursery, directing patients, and fulfilling many duties within the Smith Glenn Callaway Seniors Division. She loved working on the "Birthday Parties" and "Dine with the Docs" programs that educated the community on health issues.

Georgia is survived by her daughter, Patricia D. Sandstrom (Abercrombie) of Republic, Missouri and two sons, Russell T. Abercrombie III of Springfield, Mo. and Hugh G. Abercrombie of Stockton, Mo. She was blessed with eight grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted, July 9, 2003; a sister, Virginia Faye (Vaughn) Owen; and a brother, George Clinton Vaughn, Jr.

Georgia spent her last three months in Stockton, Mo. at her youngest sons' home, Hugh and Brenda Abercrombie, after being diagnosed with lung cancer in April. Georgia, accompanied by Hugh, completed her travels of all fifty states by taking a 7 day Alaskan cruise in May, 2013.

Memorial services will be Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. in the Stockton Christian Church. Georgia will be buried with her husband in the Missouri Veterans Cemetery Tuesday afternoon.
