Anolene Elizabeth "Annie" Mathena, 85, of Mayetta, KS, passed away Thursday, December 23, 2021 at her home. She was born September 20, 1936 in Cummings, KS, the daughter of Earl B. and Ida E. (Nitz) Ricketts. Annie graduated from ACCHS in 1954 at Effingham, KS. She was a Nursing Technician for over 22 years at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka; retiring in 1991. She was a member of Hoyt United Methodist Church and Hoyt OES #189. Annie married Robert E. "Bob" Mathena on August 29, 1954 in Cummings, KS. He preceded her in death on July 17, 2013; they had celebrated over 58 years of marriage. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Ida Ricketts; a daughter, Debra Lynn Mathena; son-in-law, Jon A. Schuh; 2 sisters, Darlene Carmack and Earlene Heston and a brother, William Ricketts.
Survivors include 2 daughters, Roberta Schuh of Mayetta, KS and Connie Peters (Jeff) of Mayetta, KS; 5 grandchildren, Matthew Schuh (Shannon), Brian Schuh (Beka), Dustin Schuh (Brittany), Joshua Peters (Megan) and Robert Peters and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral Service will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, December 28, 2021 at the Mercer Funeral Home in Holton. Burial will follow at the Hoyt Cemetery. Family will greet friends from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
