Charles Ray Canup, 73, of Greenville, SC, died Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at his home.

Born in Hayesville, NC, he was a son of the late Richmond Pearson and Eliza (Hicks) Canup.

Retired as a salesman with Dover Cylinder Head Company, he was of the Baptist faith and served with the U.S. Army.

Surviving are his wife, Frances (Eubanks) Canup; a son, Charles M. Canup (Rose) of Concord, NC; three daughters, Christa Finley of Simpsonville, Janet Hunter of Easley and Cynthia Elrod of Piedmont; three brothers, Marvin Canup of Hayesville, NC, Gene Canup of Doraville, GA, and Keith Canup of Middleton, GA.; three sisters, Ruby Monkus and Elevee McCray, both of Hayesville, NC, and Inez McCray of Andrews, NC; eight grandchildren, Hope Simmons, Pam Villalobos, Brea Finley Wright, Fallon Finley Swafford, Daniel Elrod, Amber Elrod Cuddy, Christine Canup and Frances Canup; seven great-grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Canup was predeceased by a son, Jeffrey Canup.

Funeral services were at 3:30 p.m. Friday, July 22, 2005 in the chapel of Robinson Funeral Home, Downtown, with the Rev. David Eubanks and the Rev. Michael Cox officiating. Burial followed in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

Visitation was 2:30-3:30 p.m. Friday, July 22, 2005 at the funeral home prior to the service.
