Ledora was born Lydori Ann Sherman and also went by Ladora, Lydoreann, Lydoran and Lydoriann. She married Henry Ricketson who died off the coast of California on a Whaling Ship. He was the Captain of the barque called The Chase. His whaling days are documented in the New Bedford Whaling Museum and on their website.

Her husband was granted a patent posthumously through his administratrix, (Ledora) Lydoriann Ricketson, on Dec. 14, 1852 (U.S. Patent No. 9,478) for a device that cut blanket pieces into horse pieces. It was very similar to mincing machines, and as a machine to process blubber it is included here. Ricketson utilized "two or more" spiral knives that cut through the blanket, passing through fluted slots in the rollers supporting the blanket.

Ledora or "Nana" has Mayflower Pilgrim blood - George Soule (GS #86,222), Myles Standish (GS# 86,222), John Alden (GS #86,222), Francis Eaton, and Degory Priest.

Ledora's dad (James Sherman) was Dartmouth's carpenter who served in the War of 1812 against the British and survived. Ledora's mother was Nancy (Soule) Sherman who was the direct decendant of Pilgrim George Soule - George was William Brewster's servent on the Mayflower.

The Sherman family is documented in the books called:
- Some of the descendants of Philip Sherman, first secretary of Rhode Island by Roy V. Sherman
- Sherman Directory Volumes 1 - 5
- Records of William Spooner, of Plymouth, Mass. : and his descendants, vol. I (1883)

The Soule family is documented in the book called:
- George Soule of the Mayflower and his descendants in the fifth and sixth generations (also known as the Mayflower Silver Book series) FN's from 230 to 346 - Ephraim (Ledora's Great Grandfather) is listed under FN 326.

- A contribution to the history, biography and genealogy of the families named Sole, Solly, Soule, Sowle, Soulis.

The Dunham family is documented in the book called:
- Dunham genealogy: English and American branches of the Dunham family by Isaac Watson Dunham

The Haskell family is documented in the book called:
- Haskell Family in North America - Descendants of William Haskell and Elinor Foule

The Maxfield family is documented in the book called:
- Descendants of John Maxfield of Salisbury, Massachusetts

Her 3rd great-grandfather Thomas Drinkwater (on her father's side) is thought to be a descendant of a Scottish branch of the family. This is difficult genealogy as the records in America concerning Drinkwaters are very limited.

Her family is also mentioned in the book called: Biographical sketches of representative citizens of the commonwealth of Massachusetts (Page 364).

She and her husband Henry's family are documented in the book called:
- William Ricketson, William Ricketson, Jr., and their descendants by Grace Williamson Edes

Ledora lived in the New Bedford/Dartmouth area for years then moved in with her mother Nancy and daughter Maria (pronounced Mariah) in the Boston/Roxbury area. In 1906, she came to live with her other daughter Jane Ricketson Topham (a.k.a. Jennie - my GG Grandmother) in New Bedford.

Ledora passed away in 1907 at 89 years old and she was living at 205 Acushnet Ave in New Bedford. Therefore, my grandmother had to have met her as she was born in 1901 in the New Bedford area (the town next door - Fairhaven) so she would have been 5 years old when her great grandmother moved back to New Bedford in 1906 and then she would have been 6 years old when Ledora passed in 1907.
