Lucille was a public school teacher for many years, retiring at the end of the 1964-65 school year. For much of her career she taught at Riverview, the two-story red brick elementary school on S Eleventh Street in Havana. Because of her longevity at Riverview, she taught the children of two generations of the neighborhood's residents. In the case of my family, she taught three generations: my maternal grandfather, my mother and her siblings, and my cousin and me.
