Augustus M. Deal was a United States Volunteer during the Spanish American War.

He enlisted on May 4th, 1898, for two years service, at the age of 21, and was mustered into service as a Corporal in Company G of the 1st South Carolina Infantry Regiment, United States Volunteers, on May 14th, 1898, at Camp Ellerbe in Columbia, South Carolina. He was transferred to Company B of the 2nd South Carolina Volunteer Infantry Regiment on June 27th, 1898, per Special Orders No. 150 of the Adjutant Generals Office, War Department, Washington, D.C., and promoted to First Sergeant. He was mustered out of service with his company on April 19th, 1899, at Camp McKenzie, Augusta, Georgia.
