Roger Samuel Nyfeler, 72, of Topeka, passed to his Lord on Sunday, July 14, 2013 at his home. He was born Nov. 28, 1940 at Horton Hospital, Horton, KS, the son of Samuel A. and Mabel H. (Griggs) Nyfeler.

Roger grew up on a farm south of Fairview, KS and graduated from Fairview High School in 1958. He attended Washburn University, participating actively in Track and Drama receiving numerous awards.

After graduating from Washburn, he married Janice Lorenz in June, 1964. She preceded in him in death in 1967.

Roger served in Vietnam in the Marine Corps in 1966 through 1967.

Roger worked for The Menninger Clinic in Topeka for forty years as a Therapeutic Recreation Specialist, offering a wide range of activities including directing over 40 theater productions and serving on a variety of committees. He served two terms as Chair of the Kansas Therapeutic Recreation Society, was active in community theater, both in acting and directing. He was an active member of the Wakarusa Presbyterian Church.

He married Janet Hart in 1968. They later divorced in 1994.

Roger loved participating in Senior Olympics and qualified in as many as eight events for national competitions.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, and sister, Verna McDonald Lonkerd.

Survivors include his sons, Samuel B. Nyfeler, David K. Nyfeler and Grant W. Nyfeler, and his granddaughter, Trinity all of Topeka.

A celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday at Penwell-Gabel Southeast Chapel. Private inurnment will take place in Westlawn Memorial Gardens at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Wakarusa Presbyterian Church, 10135 SW Jordan Rd, Wakarusa KS 66546.
