Obituary
Albert Reynolds Swartz was born December 8, 1847, at Wenona, Illinois and died at his home near Estherville, Iowa, April 28, 1920. Age 72 years, 4 months and 20 days.

Mr. Swartz lived with his parents in Marshal County, Illinois up to the time of his marriage to Frances Elnora Watkins of Conway, Iowa, on January 14, 1877. To this union were born six sons and one daughter. In the spring of 1899 together with his family he moved to Hancock Co., Iowa, where he resided for one year after which he came to Emmet County, where he has since made his home 'till his death.

For a number of years Mr. Swartz has suffered from ill health but was not confined to his bed until Saturday, April 24, 1920. His serious condition was immediately recognized and every thing possible done to restore him to health but all efforts were in vain and the end came quietly on Wednesday afternoon when he was surrounded by his entire family.

He was a hard laboring man and known for his honesty and fair dealing in all business matters. He was a devoted husband and father always having in mind the welfare of his family and counting no sacrifice too great for their happiness and comfort. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Albert Swartz, six sons – Ira, Will, Frank, Raymond, Lawrence and Leslie – one daughter, Grace, all residing near Estherville except Frank, who makes his home at Terril, Iowa. There are also two brothers, Arthur and Charles of Wenona, Illinois, and two sisters, Sarah of Wenona, Illinois and Mrs. Mary Jane Kennedy of Sac City, Iowa, and six grandchildren. During his twenty years residence in Emmet County Mr. Swartz made many friends who deeply sympathize with the family in their great loss. The many beautiful floral pieces brought bespoke the high esteem in which he was held by his friends and acquaintances.

Funeral services were held from the Methodist Episcopal church in Estherville on Saturday afternoon, May 1st. The pastor, Rev. J. W. La Grone, was in charge and read the funeral service and spoke briefly from the 10th and 12th verses of the 90th psalm. Music was furnished by a quartette: Messes. Fred Kilgore and Albert Mahlum and Mrs. Albert Mahlum and Miss Bertha Woods. The body was buried in Oak Hill Cemetery.
