William was a soldier of the Revolutionary war. After the war he became a merchant as well. Joseph was involved in several mercantile projects in Clarksburg, Va.

John moved twice after his sons left Ireland. He finally settled in Leckpatrick, County Tyrone where it is believed that he died in 1785. His name John has been carried forward in the Sommerville family to this day. It is not known when his wife Elizabeth died.
