Joy Burkart, 82, passed away Saturday, June 29, 2013. Mrs. Burkart was a 1948 graduate of Lebanon High School, graduated from Draughns Business College and attended Cumberland University. She worked at Texas Boot Company, Toshiba of America, and Cumberland University. She was a member of Maple Hill Church of Christ.

As a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend to many people, she devoted her entire life to her family and daily demonstrated her loving and generous ways to others. Her legacy will live on in the hearts of all of us forever.

There will be a private family service, officiated by Reverend Danny Sellars and Pastor John Hunn, on Tuesday. Interment in Wilson County Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers will be Joseph Fisher, Christopher Fisher, Flynn Neal, Travis Fakes, Mike Piercy, Ken Davis, and Gary Bates.

Survivors include children, Bill Burkart and Debbie Burkart Fisher; siblings, Starr Fakes, Ray (Bonnie) Fakes and Lynn Reeves; grandchildren, Joseph Fisher, Christopher Fisher, Rachel Fisher, Joy Elizabeth Burkart and Jordan Burkart; great-grandchild, Blayce Ponder; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by husband, Colonel Charles W. Burkart, Jr.; parents, Odes and Pauline Bates Fakes; and brother, Don Fakes.

Sellars Funeral Home of Lebanon, Tenn., assisted the family with arrangements.
