Julie was born Aug. 18, 1975, in Denison, Iowa, to Michael and Carole (Petersen) Spreng. She grew up in the Denison and Sioux City areas. She graduated from East High in Sioux City in 1993.
Julie obtained her diploma as a surgical technician from Western Iowa Technical Community College in 2000. She was employed by St. Luke's Medical Center, and later at Pierce Street Same-Day Surgery Center.
She married Scott Malm in 2003 in Sergeant Bluff. The couple had two children, Dylan and Sara. Julie loved being a mom, and spending as much time with her kids as she could.
She was preceded in death by her father, Michael Spreng; and her grandfathers, Carl Petersen and Elmer Spreng.
