Sims Aikens COLUMBIA - There will be a homegoing service for Mr. Sims Aikens on Friday, January 18, 2013, 2013, 1:00 p.m. at Pine Grove A.M.E. Church (120 Steward, Columbia, SC) with burial in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home 6-8:00 Thursday evening. Bostick-Tompkins Funeral Home, 2930 Colonial Drive, Columbia, SC, is in charge of the service. Born in Smoaks (Colleton County), SC, Brother Sims Aikens was son of the late Aussie Aiken and Dosia Kinsey on December 25, 1923. He departed this life on January 11, 2013 in Columbia, SC. He attended school in Ruffin, SC, and at a young age became a member of Prospect Church and Hickory Hill United Methodist Church. He joined the Army during WWII and achieved the rank of PFC while serving as a Military Police Officer (MP). After the military, he moved to Brooklyn, NY, where he married the late Louvenia Sease Aikens. Their union was blessed with two children. After moving to Columbia, he became affiliated with Pine Grove A.M.E Church. He is survived by his children: Russell (Doris) White Jr., Sims Monroe (Helen) Aikens and Rose Darlene Taylor-Lynch; brother-in-law, Harold (Lorraine) Sease; sister-in-law, Gloria Aikens; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other loving relatives and dear friends.
