G, 38th Indiana Infantry on Oct. 12, 1861 out of Owen Co., IN; promoted to CPL; wounded at the Battle of Perryville, KY on Oct. 8, 1862; mortally wounded in action at the Battle of Stones River, TN on Dec. 31, 1862; died Jan. 7, 1863 at age 19; listed on the NPS Stones River National Cemetery Interment list as "Benjamin Truat"; buried in an unmarked/unknown grave in Stones River National Cemetery, Murfreesboro, TN
