Hugh Wesley Barry, age 78, passed away February 24, 2003 at his Arizona winter home from natural causes.

He was born January 8, 1925 to Norman and Lucy (Hammond) Barry in Grantsville, Utah. His mother died later that same year at age 25 from childbirth complications. His father and grandmothers who lived in Grantsville, Utah and Oakley, Idaho raised Wes with his sister, Maureen, and his brother, Norman Jr. Wes developed a love for instrumental music while in grade school. He formed many dance bands and played all over the mountain states with the "Wes Barry Orchestra".

Wes served in World War II as a naval quartermaster for three years. He later graduated from BYU where he met his wife, LaBelle Boley. They were married, September 16, 1947, in the Salt Lake Temple and later had four children.

Wes taught music at Lincoln and Orem High Schools for 33 years where his bands received numerous awards. He was a master teacher and devoted his life to helping students excel in and out of the classroom. He was honored by Orem City in 1991with the Arthur V. Watkins Outstanding Citizen Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Cultural Arts. He was honored three years ago by scores of past students in an evening of tribute and celebration of his teaching career.

Wes is an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many organizations including Elder's quorums, high councils, and bishoprics. He was a diligent home teacher and served with love and commitment to his Savior.

He is a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.

His influence for good will be remembered and honored for many generations.

His wife, LaBelle, and their four children John (Brenda Gerber), Jim (Marilyn Thomas), Jay (Susann Smith) and Jill (Scott Brady) survive him along with 25 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 28, 2003 in the LDS Church on 1035 South 800 East, Orem, Utah. A viewing will be held Thursday evening prior from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Walker Sanderson Funeral Home located at 646 East 800 North in Orem, and also one hour prior to services at the LDS Church. Burial will be at the Orem Cemetery.
