Memorial services for Alfred Lee Kohler Jr., 71, of Palestine, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Bailey & Foster Chapel. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster Palestine.

Mr. Kohler died Friday in Palestine.

He was born Feb. 12, 1942 in Anderson County to Alfred Lee Kohler Sr. and Mary Swinney Kohler.

Mr. Kohler was a retired Anderson County deputy.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Michael Ray Kohler; and several brothers.

He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Sandra Kohler; daughters, Cecelia Crutcher and husband Jim, Cindy Hopper, Susan Vazquez and husband Richard; son, Robert Kohler; daughter-in-law, Jill Kohler; sister, Lena Phillips; brother, Cecil Ray Walling; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; numerous nieces and nephews; and beloved dog, Smokey.

Honorary pallbearers will be James Armstrong, Roy Glenn McCarty, Billy Whitehead, Charlie Richardson, Troy Black, Mike Calcote and Richard Farris.

Al was a special friend, I have known him and his family for 40 years now and have grown to love them. I wasn't always close to them just an off and on relationship with his kids who were my age. Al and I worked together for several years and that was what drew us back together as friends. He was a great story teller and a cut up. He will be missed by all who was fortunate enough to have known him. Rest in peace my dear friend until we meet again at heavens gate.
