Samuel Luther Baltzley, Sr., 70, retired Adams County farmer and fruit grower died at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. And Mrs. Byrd W. Hively, York, Saturday afternoon at 4:45 o'clock, after a long illness from a complication of diseases.
He was born in Franklin township, near Orrtanna, the youngest son of the late Mr. And Mrs. Peter Baltzley. After the death of his wife on August 7, 1923, Mr. Baltzley made his home with his children.
Surviving are five daughters, Mrs. Charles Rinehart, Littlestown; Mrs. W. C. Henze, Hagerstown; Mrs. Byrd W. Hively, York; Mrs. Luther Wetzel, Orrtanna; Mrs. Addison Garrett, Hanover; three sons, C.S. Baltzley, Fairfield; S. Luther Baltzley, Orrtanna; Raymond K. Baltzley, Stewartstown; two sisters, Miss Lizzie Baltzley, Littlestown; Mrs. Sadie Swope, Compton, Illinois; twenty-one grand children and three great-grandchildren.
He was a life-long member of Flohr's Lutheran church.
Brief funeral services from the Byrd home at 9 o'clock Tuesday morning, with concluding services at Flohr's Lutheran church, the Rev. T.S. Stansfield, York, and the Rev. George B. Ely, Arendtsville, officiating. Interment in the cemetery adjoining the church.
